The Challenge

We were contact by CPA Exam to do two things - develop a simple 'Flat UI' brand, and follow it up with a web page mockup to match with jQuery interactions built in. To top it off, we had only one day to be able to get this done. From 9AM until 5PM, we rocked as hard as we could on it.

Holy time crunch, Batman!

A single day project to develop a brand and apply it to a web application mockup is a great way to test your internal processes. By crunching time on a project like this, it really shows you where your hiccups and holdups are in your processes. Luckily for us, not a single snafu was encountered.

We began by quickly sketching out brands. For us, it seemed pretty straightforward. They wanted a flat design for the brand, and we figured if we sketched the site simultaneously while making the brand, we’d get something that fit in perfectly. And, that’s exactly what we got.

From there, it was crunch time. We fired up our versions of Photoshop and started jamming away on various design concepts. After three versions, we merged the best of all three worlds. Satisfied with where we were at, the project shifted over to development.

Delivering the Product

With just three hours left in the day, it was up to one person to develop the entire HTML/CSS structure, and another to simultaneously code in the jQuery interactions and track down icons to use on the site.

After getting the structure of the site in place and styled, the second developer went to town on the jQuery and iconography with an hour left while the other developer documented everything, took screenshots, and annotated interactions and ideas.

By 5PM we had a brand, a functional page for the site, and an incredibly satisfied customer.

The Final Product

CPA Exam loved the work, and based the rest of their site and branding upon it, developing it internally from there on out.
