How we delivered

Kelly Jae’s Cafe defines ‘class’ in the Goshen area. We had the chance to experience the restaurant a couple of times, and their reputation is definitely deserved. The cooking is a subtle mix of various influences, the ones experienced by chef Kelly Graff. The restaurant offers “an eclectic menu featuring a Spanish tapas concept with an Asian flair.” You can read more about Kelly and Karen on the restaurant’s website About page.

Sadly, the web presence was not up to par with the excellence of the cooking. We decided to approach Kelly and Karen with a website redesign proposal, and they accepted it.

Our design concepts were centered around two objectives:

  1. To have as much space as possible space for the food photography; because, not only is the food amazing, but also beautifully presented.
  2. To apply the interior atmosphere of the restaurant as it’s a truly unique restaurant.

Once these goals were decided upon, we began designing.

The homepage we developed features a simple and elegant layout for increased content readability. The top photo section centers upon one of the dishes prepared at Kelly Jae’s. We ensured that this photo is easily alterable so that the site can stay up to date with the restaurant it represents. To achieve a modern look, we used a subtle overlay to set the menu and branding apart from the image.

The rest of the homepage uses a standard three-column layout. The primary, and most distinct section, provides a unique and visible area for Kelly Jae’s Next Door – a recently opened sushi bar. The center column features a changeable review, and the right column is the link hub for the various social networks Kelly Jae’s utilizes.

All secondary pages derive their style from the homepage. However, the header containing the photograph is condensed to a thinner height to allow for higher usability.

A notable feature of the site is the use of Open Menu, an up and coming menu management systems for websites that standardizes the way that menus are issued online. It makes a simplified and straightforward method for updating the menu on the website and ensures the menu will always look the way it did prior to the change in content. Open Menu also allows for Kelly and Karen to also have their menus featured on the Open Menu website and search engine. You can see how this worked out on their menu page.

The catering menu page features a different organization due to the fact that the menu is a PDF document to download. This helps for the organizer(s) of a party to keep the information at hand on their own computer, rather than having to come back to the website all the time.

The contact page features a Google Map to allow for easy direction finding, the hours of operation, a contact form, and a link to download the employment application.

Another thing we ensured was that the new website was accessible through mobile internet device such as smartphones and tablet computers.

We are very proud to have had the chance to work with Kelly Jae’s Cafe, and to have helped their web presence. Feel free to visit Kelly Jae’s Cafe’s website at kellyjaescafe.com
