How we delivered
So, what is Project 52? Here’s what we wrote when we were getting ready to publish the first poster in the series:
So, the other night on Facebook, I posted about a “year long project” that would “produce content for 13 Spade”.
So here it is, and dubbed “Project 52”.
What is it? Well, there are 52 weeks in a year. That’s where the 52 in the name comes from – but what exactly will we be doing for 52 weeks? One of our ongoing inspiration for 2010 was the A Lyric A Day (referred to as ALAD) project by Luke Beard. And we were really tempted to follow the same path for 2011. But it’s already January 6th, so it looks like we are late. And we will be really busy anyway, so we were thinking about a way to still maintain an ongoing side project without it interfering with our full schedules.
So here’s what we’ll do: each week, we’ll produce a poster/print that will feature a quote. So far, really similar to ALAD. The difference with ALAD is that we won’t necessarily limit ourselves to quote taken from songs, even though it seems like it will be our main source of them as of now.
One of the things we want to do with this project as well is to pick songs/quotes from people that are maybe not so known or could benefit from the exposure, in a way or another. I believe that taking lines from songs of, let’s say, Metallica is cool and is definitely a way to acknowledge the impact it can have on one’s life or way of thinking, but we definitely would not be the only ones to have said that before.
On the other hand, if I pick a quote from a song from Frequency Theater or Wilson’s Reservoir, that have material as amazing as Metallica in my humble opinion, I can hope that other people will give them a listen or try to discover their work.
And talking about Wilson’s Reservoir, we can already tell you that they will be the first subjects of this new experiment. A simple way for us to say “thank you” to some of the people who’s writing/composing/world view shapes ours, a little or a lot.

Since then, we have been releasing one poster per week (with an interruption at the end of May until Mid-June due to technical difficulties) and posting it on Flickr, Behance, DeviantArt, Shadowness, and other places.

This was the first installment of Project 52! Bullets by Wilson’s Reservoir. Want to listen to it? Head over Youtube for an acoustic live performance of it.

The rest of Project 52 is visible all over the web. One of the best place would be the dedicated Flickr collection we put together. You can also see a few more examples in the sidebar. Also, all of the images, if clicked, open a nice little gallery for your to browse. Feel free to head through it.
